Rare play last week
« on: October 06, 2011, 08:18:50 AM »
We had a rare play last week. Here is the play, not exact yardage spots but this is a good play to think about because it can happen.
A 4th and 10 from  A 30. A punts the ball to the B 35 and R returns the ball to the 50.
K has 5 in the backfield on the punt play. During the return, R has a block in the back at the B38 and K grabs R's facemask on the tackle.
This play took us a minute or so to sort out the options. The TV guys we giving us some CRAP for the time it took to work through the fouls, but when the R announced we have 3 fouls and they showed all 3 of them in order they even said good job by the crew and no wonder it took some time to sort our.
What were the options on this play? We got it correct and got graded well by the TA and Supervisor on the weekly training video.
Very good play for study purposes.
Good luck to all this week.
I would rather be lucky than good, but it seems we were both on the play.

I am assuming there was actually more than just a grab of the facemask as that is not a foul in and of itself.

That being said, Team B was clean when they got possession so they can decline offsetting and keep the ball with the penalty for their foul enforced.  Or they can accept offsetting and down is replayed.

Would you offset all the penalties since they are all live ball fouls and rekick?

Mike has it.  B's option whether to offset or not, 10-1-4-1.

Yes - all live ball fouls offset, and I also agree w/Mike.  B keeps the ball with the BIB enforced, or offsetting fouls, replay 4th down.
It's easy to get the players, getting 'em to play together, that's the hard part. - Casey Stengel

There is no fooling Mike. Yes he tackled the runner by the facemask, PF. The receivers offset as they would have the ball at their 28. The net result was R got the ball on their 48 on the rekick. Just a good play for review purposes. Keep your hands  clean and good things can happen. yEs:

Just a nitpick.  Please stick to plays with only Team A and B.  We don't use K and R in NCAA.  My head was turning reading the play because of all the A, B, K, R.  For a minute I was thinking you had 4 different teams on the field.   :)

Sorry boys , but us guys use R & K when talking about kick plays. I will try to remember next time I post. I understand your confusion, really.
Everyone have a good game this week! aWaRd
