Keep the 1" stripe!  Makes HS officials look like high school officials.  2" stripes are for the college officials.  The odd 2" stripes are for the NFL officials.

Bossman I agree

When you move up then its like a promotion perk.

You get shirts with different stripes.

You earn the right to wear the stripes.

After 15 years working in states where I had to deal with patches, I moved to WI.  Here, no patches for ANY sports (except soccer, I think).  They call it their clean shirt policy (although you can wear a flag patch).  I'm a fan.

I have been hoping and praying for years that we move to the wider striped shirts. Looks better then the regular shirt.  At first I thought when the NCAA went to their current shirts they looked a bit weird. Now I have grown used to it and seeing a high school game with the smaller stripes doesn't look good. With the black pants the black stripes make the white ones look gray and dirty. Sadly it isn't coming to Oregon anytime soon.

I'd be ok with a wider stripe that isn't the same as the college stripe.

The proposed TASO shirt is a good compromise I think (shame it isn't cheaper though).

As long as we stay with vertical stripes, I'm fine. My wife said I, like most umpires, need to stay away from horizontal stripes.

I worked in television for many years and know that the upper levels went to wider stripes partially for television technical reasons. TV, especially in the pre HD days, didn't have enough resolution for the smaller stripes and it would turn into thousands of ants crawling on the official.  Obviously an issue for NCAA as well.  It's interesting that now it's coming down to HS level the reason for the wider stripes isn't a problem for TV any more. At 1080P resolution the stripes look like stripes.
Every uniform in major college and pro gets tested before TV cameras before it ever sees a game. I'm sure that the NFL can tell you how many pixels square the NFL logo is on the front of the jersy is when watched on a 60" TV.

One way to tell for sure is to identify whether the teams laying are from High Schools, Colleges or the NFL, the width of the stripes are really only important to people who have a need to identify field officials promptly and consistently, like clock operators for example.

Some of our larger officials have 3 inch stripes.

Colorado will be phasing in wider stripes, over the next few years. The exact stripe has yet to be determined; hopefully the executive committee will opt for a common shirt over a vendor-specific design. Thanks, everyone, again, for your comments.

It seems to me that if NFL and/or NCAA officials started wearing 4 centimeter wide chartreuse and puce horizontal stripes for the 2014 season, many NFHS officials would insist on changing over to the "new" shirts for the 2015 season.

And the "evil empire" would be there to supply your puce/chartreuse shirts in array of fabric choices, shortly after the mandate from your $tate office to $witch.

I found it amusing that when NCAA announced it was going to the 2" stripe shirt and black pants, THE NEXT DAY Honigs had an advertisement to buy the new shirts and pants (ready to ship).
