OU vs OSU Sideline Interference
« on: December 07, 2013, 02:19:02 PM »
Did anyone see the flag waved off for the sideline interference that was flagged by the S.  It was around the 6:25 mark in the 4th qtr.  It appears the H talked him out of it.  I thought he should have stayed with the flag since he tripped over a sub who was outside of the team area and was actually backing up after having been in the restricted area.  Thoughts?

I saw it too.  I have no idea why they picked that up.

To quote what I hear from coaches, "that was horrible".

Really?  Give examples ... Pretty harsh words with no examples ... Sounds more like sour grapes.

Looked like the OU assistant and the H managed to convince the S the collision happened in the green and not in the white.

Don't know how the H could tell what with all the people in the white between him and the S.

Intentional grounding not called on OU for one.
Poor spot on OSU near goal line.
Poor spot on OU - about a yard closer to the LTG than was supposed to be.
Not reviewing the interception for OSU.  Probably would not have been overturned, but worthy a review.

Yes, I am coming from a fan standpoint and not so much my officiating standpoint, but removing my fandom, I still don't think the stripes were on their A-game today.

Ill bite...winning drive for OU...DPI was not there...two no calls for holding on RT...int should have went to replay but I would go with "play stands"...should not talk S out of interference...they have to learn that area is ours...Texas HS guys know how serious this is

Is this the play:

http://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2013/12/7/5186134/oklahoma-player-trips-ref-on-sidelines

That is it.  How was Tomlin not flagged?  If you have to run behind the coach that's an automatic  ^flag

This really bothers me. And I think coaches/sidelines should be given a ton of leeway in general. You wanna complain/scream all day about calls? Go nuts. Just stand where you're supposed to while you're doing it.

To that end, I understand--and agree with--the reluctance to hit a coach/sideline with a flag. If it's for VERBAL activity in the coaches area.

But this is entirely different. This official is running his a** off. Doing his job. And he could've been significantly hurt. What if he'd twisted an ankle or sprained a knee so badly that he couldn't finish the game?  What if this were week 2 and he had to miss the next 3 games with an injury? Would the H (or anyone else on the crew) look for a reason to talk him off the flag then?

Now that I've seen the video, I believe S has something he needs to grow and not "yes dear" the rest of the crew. He should have stuck to his guns. Mike, I'll buy the 2nd round.

wel…
the announcers thought the flag pickup was good since officials might not want to influence the game with that type of unnintentional action…

why don't they just shut up?

They started out saying it was a good flag before it was waved off and then they thought that was good.

This, all the way, this...

He was clearly in the white and he didn't run into a coach, he ran into a player standing in the white.  I would *LOVE* to hear how they talked him out of this.

Especially since the subs should be in the team area.

 ^flag

Has the Big 12 Office heretofore given any kind of an official explanation to either the competing schools or to the media as to why the flag was picked up and not enforced? If they have not, do you think that they ever will? If not, that appears to be extremely bad public relations!   z^

This is unfair. For all we know, he told the R exactly what happened, and the R made the call to pick up the flag. If that happened, what sort of 'gun-sticking' are you suggesting the S should've done?  Argue with the R?  Steal the microphone and announce the penalty himself?   :)

So who get's their tootsies in trouble with the Big 12 Officials Supervisor's Office when the film review is done? The "S?" The "R?" Or the entire crew? And trust me, the Big 12 Supervisor is not going to want to be the laughing stock from his other conference's supervisor cohorts over a call/miscommunication like this!

In time, I greatly suspect that someone is going to pay, rather than meekly stand before the podium and just say "'Scuze!"   z^

Nobody said life was fair. And the R is not always right. 7 guys swim; 7 guys sink.
