Orange Bowl final interception and RTP plays
« on: January 04, 2014, 09:23:23 AM »
Was that final INT catch completed? (1:00+ left in 4th quarter) Looked like the ball was never clearly secured on the way to the ground.
Earlier in the 4th quarter on TD pass by OSU, flag for RTP. Hit seemed to occur within a step of the QB throwing the pass. Would like to hear some guidelines you use to judge RTP. Thanks.

On air, AAC Supv said it was.

Do you really think he's going to say it's wrong?

I personally thought it should have been incomplete... I'm REALLY surprised they didn't review it

Absolutely not. I'm sure they reviewed it... every play is reviewed. But after his opinion on-air, do you think any RO in his right mind would dare overturn the call?  :!#

Replay guy can't hear the "talking heads" comments so I don't think his supervisors comments made any difference ....,. still ?

I struggled with that play while watching that game live. I personally thought it was incomplete however he did have one hand on the ball and in control be it briefly when he rolled over.

My main guideline is: Could he have avoided the contact or lessened the impact of the hit?

The pass was incomplete. When you looked at it in slow motion it seemed like he had it for a while. Blandino always warned against being fooled by this and to look at it in real time. He never maintained control through the process of going to the ground.

The umpire didn't stick with the play although this isn't a call he's used to making.

No way they took the time to review this play. He clearly did not maintain possession through out the play.
