Does anyone have any info from the TASO board meeting and the Chapter Officers meeting?

TexDoc · « **Reply #1 on:** February 24, 2014, 08:43:58 AM »

The only thing I've heard from that meeting is that TT was not in attendance.

From what I have heard... New shirts were approved (optional 1 year, mandatory next year).

The questions will be randomized on the test.

Oh Yeah the website will be updated/useful

That's a good one Coby.

Thanks for the update.

Pony up boys, Cliff Keen has gotta make their money.

We couldn't at least get a three year burn in on these?

Welpe, we did get a three year "burn in". No change this year 2014, optional in 2015, mandatory in 2016. Sub varsity fields in 2015 will be quite a sight! Any rookie official in 2015 would be silly to buy anything but the new shirt. Couple that with the veteran that will hold off on a new purchase until 2016.
Change is hard! Never a change or implementation that will be perfect for everyone.
Patch manufacturer = buggy whip manufacturer

OK well that's better. I inferred it would be optional this year, mandatory next.

I'm not opposed to change. If these are going to be offered through Cliff Keen exclusively, as what has been done through other states, then I'm opposed to that and the rather high price tag associated with their offerings.

If they are coming down the road, make them optional now. I need to buy a new shirt b/c of a position change (not arguing about merits of placards here) and now I'm going to buy a shirt for 1 maybe 2 years of wear? Make it optional now.

A rookie in 2014 will get one year out of his shirt, if they are going to change then do it this year.

agreed!!

Another change in uniforms starting this year will be Blacks socks instead of White socks when wearing shorts.

Not only no, but HECK no..

To protest maybe we should get black socks that go up to the knees or bring out the striped socks.

These changes were made based upon the survey. Apparently there was a large number of fashion idiots that thought blacks socks were cool.

Almost 60% of respondents were above the age of 50.

We ought to just admit it...I agree with a Chapter President who made the comment, "I could care less if they are wearing pink shorts and a muscle shirt, as long as we get the game covered". That is the bottom line in may parts of the state. Just be happy we have someone out there and don't be so preoccupied with every facet of their clothing

Do a google image search for officials in other sports who wear shorts and look at what they are wearing. The black socks really do not look that bad. When I first heard of the proposal I thought it was crazy but after looking at the images, they really do not look bad. It is one thying when you are wearing Bermuda shorts while walking down the boardwalk. Yeah, black socks there look stupid. But when you are wearing them with a clear "uniform" short, they are not bad.

I would think that is probably in line with the demographics of TASO football

Welpe · « **Reply #19 on:** February 24, 2014, 10:50:57 PM »

I heard about the socks tonight.

What we need are socks that match our shorts and pants. Black with a stripe down the sides. We can get thigh high socks to wear with shorts to maintain continuity.

And maybe slap a patch or two on them....

TexDoc · « **Reply #20 on:** February 25, 2014, 02:11:50 AM »

Where I work sv football they could care less if I showed up wearing a toga as long as they get officials. Black socks and shorts is probably not going to happen in the same place. Seriously, do we not have more important things to worry about?

TXMike · « **Reply #21 on:** February 25, 2014, 04:56:58 AM »

Doc - Maybe you SHOULD wear a toga. The black shorts and socks do not look that good on you

James · « **Reply #22 on:** February 25, 2014, 06:27:06 AM »

I've never met any of you guys - and I know you rip on each other all the time, but Mike - that last one was...
I'm just luck I wasn't drinking anything that I could spit out on my keyboard when I saw it.

TexDoc · « **Reply #23 on:** February 25, 2014, 09:03:33 AM »

Mike, funny thing is, I probably weight pretty close to what you weigh. So I guess that could be you jumping into that pool buddy!

Coby · « **Reply #24 on:** February 25, 2014, 09:13:22 AM »

Had a coach tell me once that he did not care if I came out to the field wearing a peanut shell jock strap and a rubber band as long as his Sub Varsity games were covered.

For the first 5 years I was married every time I went out to officiate in shorts my wife would say "Bye Bye Beavis". There really is no easy way to make black shoes and shorts look good.

How do you post videos and pictures on here?
