Legal Kick down

For a legal kick down to occur, does the ball just have to be kicked, does it matter if it doesn't cross the line scrimmage? For example, if a punt gets block and then Team A advanced it for a first down, that would be a legal kick down?

Yes, that is a legal kick. Crossing the line has nothing to do with the definition of a legal kick.
