6 Man Crew vs 7 Man Crew
« on: August 24, 2014, 05:47:08 PM »
We are switching to a 6 man crew for some of our games this year and I will be a FJ.  I have been watching some 7 man games on tv and noticed that the FJ or SJ sometimes are marking the spot out of bounds.  For our training they pretty much tell us we only have the spot from the two yard line to the goal line.  Is it taught different in 7 man vs 6 man?  Thanks.

It shouldn't be any different between 6 and 7.

H/L have the spot until the 2. Reverse mechanics, you have the spot until the 2.

Agreed shouldn't be different, we have a couple of specific mentions such as this information for wing officials on a long run,

"Occasionally, the deep official may be in a better position than you to cover the ball carrier, in which case he may be the one to declare the ball dead and mark the forward progress. However, this should not be normal practice - keep up with the play!"

Our state uses the 3-yd-line.  Don't know that it makes a big difference, as long as the short wings & the deep wings are on the same page.
