QB scrambles beyond LOS, returns behind LOS, throws 60-yard TD. pass. No linemen downfield at anytime. Coach insists it's a foul.

I can't find anything in the rule book that says this is not a Touchdown.  Pass was thrown with both feet in or behind the NZ.  No linemen down field... TD.... Ref: 7-5-1

Coach is learning his rules on TV.  He is correct if it is an NCAA or NFL game.  But the same restriction does not apply in HS.

Touchdown.  Pass was thrown from behind the line.  No linemen were illegally downfield.  There had been no change of possession on the play, and only one forward pass thrown on the play.

I do not question your analysis of the OP.  I simply admire the game awareness of the offensive linemen who waited at the LOS while their QB scrambled across it and then returned behind it to throw a legal forward pass.  If this was a planned play, then my hat is off to the coach too.

I have never been able to find anything in the NFHS book indicating that the line of scrimmage "disintegrates" after the ball has crossed it.  I say TD.

A move to make this illegal was on the docket a few years ago - prompted by a trick play where the runner carried the ball a few yards downfield only to pitch the ball back behind the LOS to the QB...and you can guess the rest - but it died in subcommittee. Many in Red Sox Nation picked them to repeat, but they died early in the year. :( I'm excited yEs: eAt& pHiNzuP about Patriot football...much more excited than outlawing the OP play.

The line of scrimmage 'disintegrates' in college and the NFL, but not in NFHS.

Ralph,
Did you catch Tom Brady's quote about retirement today:
When I suck, I'll retire. I don't plan on sucking for a long time.
