Swinging Gate Question
« on: October 06, 2014, 10:36:27 AM »
Swinging Gate XPT

Linemen are on the left hand side.  Qb is in gun behind Center.  Coach reads D allignment for 8-10 seconds.  Coach yells shift.  Line moves over to a traditional Xpt formation.  (Here is question)  Qb runs off of the field.  Kicker runs from sideline out of bounds to line up to kick XPT.

At this point I believe we have Illegal Subs.  Just like the spread teams that have already lined up and then subs after team "checks with sideline"  Thoughts?

The sub is legal, we just need to give Team B time to match up.

I'm guessing the end result is delay of game on team A, if the coach takes that long before subbing. The 25 second clock will most likely expire while team B is given time to match up.

Why would you think you have illegal subs?  Seems legal to me from what how you described it.

Are some of the people on the field players who came in for the play but then left without participating ?

The Qb was in for the previous play before running out.  I just don't see the difference between this and a no huddle team getting called for illegal substitution for running a sub in while they are lined up at the line checking for a play.  The linemen were already set in gate.  Then they motioned out and the QB went out K in.

The linemen were not set in the gate as the snapper had not been established not had linemen been locked in.    Why would you flag the no huddle team for what you rescribed ?  That is a legal sub

When can you flag a no huddle team for illegal subs or breaking the huddle with 12?
