So basically it is a line down the middle. That's what I thought. just wanted clarification because I called that in a jv game and then was second guessing myself.
My play was a receiver lead blocking downfield on a sweep and he goes low on the safety coming from the middle. Of course he hit him from the side as well so it was a pretty easy call to make but I wanted to clarify that it could have been towards the original position of the ball as well

It seems this is a pile of 5hi+, the more we stir it the more it stinks. So what does the phrase "original position of the ball at the snap" mean? Only at the snap or for the whole down. If for the whole down, why wasn't it worded like it was before the changes? In my eyes we don't have a definitive answer. It seems we are split on this about 50/50. So what is being called in one game is not in the next. That is not a good thing.

Agreed that we need an answer as to exactly what the phrase "original position of the ball at the snap" means.  I know that our board in Massachusetts is following the diagram that indicates what is legal or not for the entire down.  The rule as I see it now reads that the block must be both in the 10-2 window AND not back toward the "original position of the ball at the snap" with no timing element or xx yards downfield element.   That says to me that the BBW must be 10-2 and toward the sideline away from where the ball was located at the snap.

If that's not correct then we need to fix it.
