Removing Helmet Clarification
« on: October 29, 2014, 02:14:28 PM »
Here's a scenario:

Team A has a 4th down play that they fail to convert.  After the play is over & one of the defenders on Team B as he celebrates the 4th down stop removes his helmet while in the field of play.  If the ref throws a flag for that citing unsportsmanlike conduct what happens then?  Does Team A retain possession & get a 1st down?  Or because it was a dead ball, change of possession foul does Team B get the ball after marching off a 15-yard or half the distance to the goal penalty?

Thanks

any dead ball foul counts as after the down, right? No matter what down was played, the enforcement will always be on the next down, right?

What about (1) live-ball fouls treated as dead-ball during a touchdown play and (2) dead-ball fouls occurring after a touchdown and before the ready for play on the try?

If live-ball treated as dead-ball happens on the score then the offended team has the option to enforce on the try or KO.  Prime example is sideline warning/interference.

Same goes for dead-ball fouls occurring before the RFP on the try.  If there is no succeeding KO, then the enforcement can only go on the try.
