I was at the game and thought the play was officiated as well as any "unusual play" could be... great patience by the SJ/BJ in not rushing to judgment, good bean bags & hat for the fumbles. Excellent reverse mechanics all the way back to the other end zone. Good rule knowledge that being OOB and coming back to the ball means nothing unless you're still in OOB status. Otherwise Team A has the only restrictions on kick and pass plays.
As for the ball being "heavy" or the player being "cool"... it's tough enough as an official to judge PI, holding, targeting, etc... don't get caught up in judging 18-23 year olds actions. Been there (a long time ago) and done too many regrettable things myself. If you can officiate this play as well as this crew did then as Dave Parry used to say, "You put it in the upper deck!"
