Auburn Offensive Holding vs Texas A&M
« on: November 15, 2014, 09:52:00 AM »
The A&M defensive line was pretty obviously held by the Auburn O line tackles most of the night.  I am wondering how an SEC crew misses these kinds calls (except once).

I have tried to rationalize to death...away from the point of attack (no--right in the middle of the play); not terribly obvious (no--it was blatant); wing officials heading down-field with receivers (possible, but they're playing 7 man mechanics?), etc.  In fact, in the clip, it is a double take-down by the blue O line vs red #'s 15 and 9.

I'm normally a wing ref--I would expect to see these when they happen.  Further, how did the R miss something so obvious?  I'd love to hear anyone else's take on this.

Hey, we all miss em sometimes!

Definitely should have been a foul though.

Depending on formation, R may have been looking at the right tackle. LJ (or HL if trips) would then have the left tackle and the back. You can see the back come up and chip inside with the left guard (which often has the potential to create CHB...obviously not in this case), so perhaps this caught the attention of whichever official (R, HL or LJ) was also keying the left tackle. Just some thoughts and another reason why 8th official is gaining steam...
