I heard the explanation --- they are in a hurry up and Winston's job was to get under center and snap as fast as he could.  Having said that -- depending on the conversation with the C, I have to throw a flag and eject him for physically pushing the official out of the way.  I do not care what you play call is -- the player has to be aware of the situation with the officials trying to administer the game, and if I am telling you to hold up and wait, I don't care what your coach says - you wait until I say you can go.

That has to be 15 yards.  You may not like me.  You may not respect me. But you will listen to me when I am trying to administer the game.

Another video link if the Mobile ESPN version above doesn't work (didn't for me).

Is there any middle ground on this (I'm not an NCAA official)?  Is there a way to flag FSU for violating the defense's right to match substitutions, but not to eject Winston?  It just seems like there clearly was a violation of a rule on this play, yet no flag...

No, there isn't. NCAA rules are very clear, that if you forcibly and intentionally contact an official, you are ejected. The circumstances of the contact probably will have an effect on the suspension, but that's all.

Should have been ejected, he's clearly pushing the official away. It does not matter if the official should be elsewhere or not.

IMO the minimum this one should have gotten was a flag for USC.  Hard to believe that the officials didn't even stop the play on this one but who knows exactly what was being said between the C and the QB.  What was clear however is that the U had a far better chance of getting over the ball on this play since the C was already behind the lineman and had no path to get to the ball.  I guess that standing between the snapper and the QB was a 2nd best option but the mechanics of having the C over the ball instead of the U when Team A is in the hurry-up doesn't seem to be very well thought out.

I had a similar thought.  I would really like for RR to weigh in on this.  With the use of the C on the offensive side of the ball, the delay of the snap with substituting players, and the up tempo offenses, this could easily happen again.  We should get some clear guidance on this play.

Yet the Head of ACC Officials called it insignificant and not warranting a flag or ejection.

I'm getting tired of the Jameis excuses from FSU. Win at all costs!

Jimbo Fisher making excuses and enabling one of his players (Winston isn't the only one he does it for) inappropriate behavior?  What a surprise.
