Illegal.  Towards the original position at the snap.

Looks like a crack-back to me.

Mike, how did you set that play up like that in Hudl?

Based on my understanding of the "crackback" provision in the rules, this does not fit. That provision was to prevent the receiver from cutting the guy on or near the LOS coming out to pursue this kind of play. This is downfield so 10-2 is what applies.

I know some like to interpret the "crackback" to be anything toward the direction of the line though the ball this quickly after the snap. If that's your interpretation this is a foul. That's not my understanding though.

This is a foul. It is back toward the ball and is only 2 yards downfield. The crackback portion of the rule is designed to protect linebackers and this is a classic example of a LB being blocked low.

That was my first thought too. I dont think you'd get criticized for throwing it, though.

What was the flag for? Why was it thrown so late nowhere near the foul? It looks like hes calling a late hit OOB.

This is like a similar thread before. There seems to be a 50/50 split of what is meant by back toward the original position of the ball at the snap. I would like to see RR clear this up.

I have a flag on this.  Back towards the ball at the snap.  I think this is what the rule is intended to do.

did you see the most recent CFO video that Redding did?  I thought he answered this once and for all.  That being said, I will agree with the multitude believe the language needs to be cleaned up.

To me, this is BBW.  It is back toward the original position of the ball at the snap and the runner is still either in, or very close to being in the low blocking zone.

10 yards down the field, I would pass on this.

TxMike -> which specific video was it?

Are you looking at the video for officials or the one for media?  The one for officials is a play from Ohio St - Penn St

There seems to be an issue when using those un-American iPad/iPod/iPhone/iWhatevers. We will have to work with HUDL folks to see if they have a workaround.  (But you can't install Silverlight on an iSomething can you ?  ?)

I've watched the Game Review 6 again (officials version) and cannot find Penn St vs Ohio St...

All I could find was Penn St vs Temple and Ohio St vs Minnesotta

I will now look at play 15 of every other Game Review

Game Review 5
That's it!

But still, I am in doubt... RR doesn't really explains much about how long into the play are we to consider crackbacks illegals or not
I think I understand the intent of the rule but I haven't watched the original play of the post here to have doubts about it

I thought the same thing.
"Gentlemen, we are going to relentlessly chase perfection, knowing full well we will not catch it, because nothing is perfect. But we are going to relentlessly chase it, because in the process we will catch excellence. I am not remotely interested in just being good."

This is a tough one. I think I would be inclined to flag it.

They need to have a popup that allows you to open the link in the hudl app.

I think this would have been legal if he'd lined up as a wing or a tight end, but as a wideout, that's illegal.
