Yes.  Good call and correct enforcement.  Under new rule change this year, low hit on Passer. It wasn't late -- just low.  Don't think impetus of the block took him low.

By new rule you can't hit the Passer at the knee or below.

I guess we are seeing it differently. I see the hit in the thigh and then going down low.

The push from the tackle is enough to give him grace.  This player was not unabated and the hit was not below the knee.

 ^flag

The defender beats his block and then goes low.  He comes in right at the knee.

No flag, Defender is getting blocked but he is on his own when he gets to the QB.  The defenders first contact is with his left forearm above the knee. In addition the leg he is hitting is not planted on the ground and is airborne thus making the hit in actuality even higher.  From watching the film the QB does not even go to the ground.

I would pass on the flag.

we haven't started enforcing this rule down here yet so the question is to try and get it clear for next season...

doesn't this low hit on the QB need to be forcibly? And, if it does, do you all consider that to be a forcible hit?

It does need to be and no I do not see that in this play.  In defense of all of us, this is the first year of this rule so we are all getting adjusted to it.  As you likely know, this rule came from the NFL where they may have their own wishes and desires.  As we see more of it in our game and get more chance for Redding and the supervisors to weigh in, we will get a better of idea of what is a foul and what is not.  I thought the intent was to prevent a defender from deliberately going a the knee or below on the passer when he had other options available to him.

Im in the "no" crowd here. Contact is made low, sure, but I dont think this rises to the level of "roughing." Kid didnt even hit the ground, did he? Seems kinda ticky-tack to call it.

Nobody has quoted the rule, so I will (9-1-9-b):

Quote
When an offensive player is in a passing posture with one or both feet on the
ground, no defensive player rushing unabated shall hit him forcibly at the knee
area or below . . . It is not a foul if the defender is not rushing unabated or is blocked or fouled into this opponent.]

The rest isn't relavant to this play.

Just a hit at the knee OR below isn't a foul. The rush clearly isn't unabated. 2 or 3 of you might want to edit your comments.

I say no flag here. There's no forcible contact to the knee. Getting tangled in his feet, and making forcible contact are completely different things.
