Chick-Fil-A Bowl

On the TCU touchdown on the interception just before half, should there have been a flag for IG even though the pass was caught by the Frogs for a TD?  There was no receiver in the area and the QB was not out of the pocket.  I raise this because what happens if replay overturns the call and there is no flag.

I think we had this discussion last year when the same thing happened between Michigan and Notre Dame. I don't recall what the group consensus was, but I think there should be a flag here. 7-3-1 doesn't say that the pass has to be incomplete for IG. If it would have been a foul without the interception, I think there should be flag down.

Im pretty sure that you cant have grounding if the ball never hit the ground. If its caught no foul

The rule doesn't say that, there's no AR that supports that, and there's no mention of it in the CCA list of philosophies. The only stipulation is that the pass must be forward into an area without a Team A receiver. Neither the location of Team B nor the result of the play is of consequence in regards to IG.

Agreed there should be a flag for IG.  Interception does not matter.  What if the interception was in the field of play and the ball was recovered by Team A.  Rather than allow Team A to have 1st down and a new series, Team B should have the option of accepting the penalty -- which is this case is a safety, 2 pts, and have the ball kicked to them.
