Hopefully everyone got the email blast from TASO today relaying the message from UIL:

In compliance with all applicable FAA regulations and related law, subject to local discretion, drones may be used for practice purposes only. Drones shall not be used in conjunction with any scrimmage or game.
Thanks,
UIL Athletics

I read the email and I can't figure out if I'm supposed to play Barney Fife or if Mike Fitch is Barney Fife.  Why in God's creation would this go to referees.  It's not a referee issue in ANY way, shape or form.  How do I know that the drone in the sky, that I'm not looking at because I have a game to referee, isn't from the local TV station or just a fan?  And does TASO expect me to stop the game until the drone is down?  What the hell are the FAA regulations?  Is that in my training materials?  SMH.

Common sense would tell you to let game administrator handle as long as it is not a safety issue.   Once it is over the field or team area then it is a safety issue and suspend game to let them deal with it

I heard there were teams hovering them over the field filming scrimmages.

I think Mike is just the messenger. UIL passing along their policy. I had a drone in one of my games last year. It was only used before kickoff though. I thought it was pretty cool.

Please note that is only UIL games.  There is a TAPPS school on North Shepperd  here in Houston that has had them at their games live streaming their games for 2 years now.
