Texas CHL Laws
« on: August 26, 2015, 04:50:51 PM »
I know a lot of this might be semantics, but let's be clear, if you have a concealed carry license, you can have your weapon in your vehicle out of site and remaining out of site while on school grounds.  TASO needs to be clear about this.

Week 1 Officiating Memo:

This is the best time of the year. Everyone is undefeated and we have not missed a call all year. Enjoy while it lasts.

These are things we talk about every year but we need to review them every year.

You cannot take drugs, guns, alcohol, tobacco, pornography on a school campus.

You may never use tobacco on the field. No snuff, chewing tobacco or smoking in the dressing room.

Never drink alcohol after midnight if you have a game the next day.

Don’t take your gun on campus.

Don’t interact with female trainers, cheerleaders, twirlers, or students in an inappropriate manner.

Be careful with prescription drugs and don’t leave a Playboy magazine in your car.

Everyone of us represents all of us. Be, act, speak, and dress professional.

With or without a CHL, you can legally have your handgun concealed in your vehicle, even if it is on the school parking lot. The statute says the prohibiition is for the "physical premises," which means the buildings.

Suppose your gun is in the car and then some psycho with a rifle goes into a building on school property and starts shooting.  You pulling your gun to go stop him?  By law we can't.  That gun free zone means nothing to the criminal.

Tommy has been telling those in Houston that for a few years now. I just made sure I was following the law and kept whatever might or might not have been in my car locked up.

You have to make your own decision on how you are going to respond to specific threats. Knowing that virtually all mass killings end with the shooter offing himself, the presence of a good guy with a gun will either lead to that or give the good guy a significant advantage in conftonting the shooter, as the shooter is untrained and going after the unarmed. With that said, I don't want to take a Glock 43 -- the handgun I have in my vehicle -- to a gunfight against a guy with an AR, regardless of how proficient he is or isn't with that weapon. Give ME the AR and I'll probably respond to most anything.

I've been trained in tactical weapon situations, spent significant time on the range and have gone through shooting simulations (a good exercise for every gun owner). (Not to mention BB gun wars when I was in HS!!) Most people haven't, so what I'd do isn't necessarily relevant. Everyone should have a phone and dial 9-1-1 at the first site of this. Just like when a fight breaks out on the field -- take names and numbers and let the cops do their job.

Not sure what this has to do with the topic, but a PSA nonetheless.
