Sorry to break from the ranks to say this, but I don't see what warrants all the outrage. Just like Duke/Miami, the crew screwed up on a critical call that had an impact on the outcome of the game. Now it'd been one thing if they'd missed this on second or third down, but this actually had an impact on the final score. I really don't think you can call either of these a CYA PR move.

Well, Brendan, I'm not sure you fully understand what it's like to work under such a microscope.  Although I have no idea what level of football you work (as if it mattered), I can say from your comments that you do not fully appreciate the day to day grind these gentlemen work under.  No one has proclaimed to be perfect.  Our outrage, as you call it, is merely in an effort to offer support in an unfortunate time for these officials.  I would dare say that you and I both have had mishaps along these exact same lines; the only difference is ours is not spread all over ESPN.
So please relax, and have a good last week of the season.
