2016 Austin Camp - May 6-7
« on: November 27, 2015, 10:10:16 AM »
Does anyone know how the Austin camp works with respect to payment and clinic acceptance?  I registered for the clinic and thought I'd get a payment page where I can pay via credit card.  I saw a reference to send a checks so assuming that's the only payment option.  Do they only accept checks, and if so, do they offer a payment plan?  I'm also curious if they have some way of telling you that you've been accepted to the clinic before making any kind of payment.  Finally, I would also like to know if the position I'm interested in working is full.  Anyone have any information?  There's no "contact us" page to ask questions.  I hear this is an outstanding clinic but would like to obtain more information.

AFAIK, you must pay with a check and there is no payment plan.  I think when you register you send your check, then you wait, if you get accepted you get an email with confirmation of that and receipt of payment.  If you don't get in, the check is destroyed.  That's what I heard from a few guys that have been.

From the web site...

Sounds like someone needs to join the 21st century.  Unfathomable to cut a check and wait for days/weeks to hear something back.  #EFT #gogogadgetemail

This is the website with all the info.  Good camp.  A lot of on-field work.

I registered and sent my check about one month later.  Got an email a few days after registering saying it was not complete without full payment.  When they got my check, they sent another email saying my positions were full but offered me other positions.  I replied accepting a new position and received email confirmation a day later.

That's my experience as a first timer for this camp.  An updated process would be better.  I was surprised that responses were not immediate, but it is what it is.  I'm in and I'm excited about the opportunity.

I decided to tag this clinic onto the end of my Florida holiday.

Being a Brit I couldn't just send them a Cheque or bankers draft etc (in dollars), so got them to agree to take paypal which I could do in USD.

A heads up for anybody else who registered but hasn't booked their recommended hotel yet.  I rang the hotel this morning and they say they are full, not just no more rooms at the conference rate but FULL.

As it was when I was looking for an alternative hotel on Tripadvisor I was offered the actual recommended conference hotel for the nights I needed!  Not as cheap as the conference rate but still cheaper than many hotels around.

So now my question, as a first time attendee (I'm on the cheaper part of the clinic that doesn't include the on-field experience), what advice would you give?

BTW, why is it called the Austin clinic when it's not near Texas :-)

Ask questions.  The clinicians are there for you to take advantage of their knowledge.  Don't leave wishing you would've asked someone a question.  Also, take your gear.  There have been times where people who initially signed up couldn't attend and guys who signed up to be observers brought their gear were able to get on the field.  Have a good time.  It's a good camp.

Anybody know a telephone number for someone in the organisation?

I leave tomorrow for the US and still haven't received any joining instructions (they acknowledged they got my money)

Would like to get any instructions before I go so I can ensure I pack appropriately.

Hopefully you get this before you leave, but here is the agenda from last year if it's any help.  Includes uniform spec:

I didn't get it before I left unfortunately but very much appreciated anyway.

Anybody know an equipment supplier somewhere around South Tampa or on the way between Orlando and Miami

Or alternatively a reliable supplier who could ship to my hotel for sometime early next week?

Shorts aren't something we have a great need for in the UK even if our main league runs during the summer :-)
