I don't get it.  How is this NOT flagged? ! ?  !   I am not accusing but I hope anyone who excuses this understands that by doing so it may lend to a perception that the contact was intentional so therefore not flagged.  https://youtu.be/Us1A25viyso

I saw that live and could not believe there wasn't a flag on it. Makes it really hard for the rest of us to flag things like that when they don't do it on the biggest stages.

Maybe since he choose to truck him, he called it even...

Watch it closely,  he saw the coach, he could have avoided in my opinion, but he had enough time to get the forearm ready.

Probably should have flagged him on top of trucking him :)  but, he definitely trucked him.

Perhaps there was a "reminder memo" sent out after this game.  Cannon Crew had both a 15 yard Interference and (2) Sideline Warnings in the Clemson/Oklahoma game.  TV talking head hated all three..How many people-coaches and officials-need to be seriously injured before we foul, with or without contact, every time someone is in the white during a live ball?  http://www.refstripes.com/forum/Smileys/classic/refflag.gif

Just have NCAA fine a coach say $10,000 for each down the coach is on the white (non-coaching staff fines to either HC or the university). Easy to handle after the game and would go much farther to keep the coaches out.

Making it a progressive fine would even carry more weight.

Still like my idea. All coaches wear dog shock collars, switch thrown at snap. If they are outside the team box, they will be the next level of entertainment. Twerking on the sidelines. ^flag

I was wondering what the heck the FJ was doing running down there, then I saw they were in an onside formation.  haha!

FJ should just run around him and flag him.  No need to lower the boom.  It's still 15 yards.

Onside mechanics with an 8 man crew look weird to me. You've got six officials between the restraining lines. Then again, I've never worked a game with more than 5 officials.

FJ should just run around him and flag him.  No need to lower the boom.  It's still 15 yards.

This is probably a point where NCAA and FED differ, but NCAA sideline interference (15 yards) occurs if an official has to avoid a coach without contact? Going back to a play that twref mentioned in the Clemson game, somebody's blag posted about it complaining that it wasn't obvious -- but in the gif they have, you can see the H running down the sideline at the start, then he has to run on the field to avoid a coach at the end. Would that be the auto-15 for having to avoid a coach?

The blog post was focused on the jumping, acrobatic coach who clearly didn't interfere with an official (although he was in the restricted zone), but that's probably not what drew the flag.

In FED, the auto 15 only comes with contact. If I have to avoid but don't make contact, it's only the next level of "warning".

Yes, the NCAA interprets going around a coach as physical interference just like running into a coach. It is automatically 15. With the Clemson play, somebody who as at the game said that the S ran into somebody but the cameras never showed it.

From the CFO Week 1 quiz this year: (correct answer was given as B)

6. On the opening kickoff of the game between Middle Coast State and Helena
Tech, MSC player B22 catches the kick and returns the ball along his team’s sideline. In
coming down the sideline to officiate the play, the Side Judge either runs into or must
run around a Team B coach or squad member in the restricted area (“the white”). B22
is driven out of bounds at the A-35.

a. Team B is issued a warning for Game Administration under Rule 9-2-5-a. No
flag.
b. The Side Judge drops his flag and charges Team B with unsportsmanlike
conduct for Sideline Interference under Rule 9-2-5-b, which is treated as a dead-ball
foul.
c. The Side Judge drops his flag and charges Team B with unsportsmanlike
conduct for Sideline Interference under Rule 9-2-5-b, which is treated as a live-ball foul.
REFERENCES: 9-2-5-b, A.R. 9-2-5-I
COMMENTS: Sideline Interference is a foul carrying a 15-yard penalty after the ball is
dead. This is a penalty that is enforced whether or not there has been a warning for
Game Administration under 9-2-5-a.

The most amazing thing I saw this bowl season was the IGR no-call explanation.

"There is no foul for intentional grounding, the quarterback meant to throw the ball but it slipped out of his hand. Third down."

Did no one notice that after the FJ knocks down the coach another coach walks into the white just as the FJ turns to follow the punt return upfield and he has to avoid him as well.
For every coach that thinks we got it wrong there's another that thinks we got it right.

Less than 5 minutes to go in a one possession bowl game?
