Sliding Ball Carrier

I know when a ball carrier gives himself up with a baseball type slide, his forward progress is marked by the ball position at the beginning of the slide.  I cannot, however, find reference to that. Anybody?

You can't find it because it's not a rule.    His forward progress is where the ball is when he becomes down by rule.

4-1-3-b states when any part of ball carriers body except hand or foot touches ground ball is dead.

2-9-2
And forward progress is the position of the ball when dead by rule.

So when his calf, butt, ham anything touches the ground he's down and fwd progress at that spot.

  Good analysis.  Do not over think the question.  You may have been confusing it with the NFL rule.  Remember, in the NFL you have do be down by contact, which is not required in our game.  So, the NFL has to have a rule about being down when you give yourself up by sliding.  We have no need for such a rule.

It was announced at our Clinic this past weekend that RR will issue a rule change regarding a sliding ball carrier. He is down when he begins his slide. No need for another body part to touch the ground. LOS guys are to mark the ball at the position it's at when the ball carrier starts his slide. Defenders will be liable for late hits and targeting once the ball carrier starts his slide.

Confirmed, have received same word from our supervisor.

This is now effectively the same as the NFL rule.

Just posted on arbiter as a rules interpretation:

SLIDING BALL CARRIER
Interpretation:
When a ball carrier gives himself up and goes into a feet-first slide, the ball is declared
dead at its forward-most point when he obviously begins his slide.

Comment:
Rule 2-27-14-j (duplicated in Note 2 of Rule 9-1-4) adds a new category of defenseless
player: a ball carrier who has given himself up and is sliding feet first. Although the
defenseless-player designation applies only to applications of the targeting rule in 9-1-4,
the question arises as to where the ball is declared dead after a player starts his slide.
The interpretation is intended to clarify this point.
