Given that it's the Big XII I'll believe it when I see it. That is one goofy conference who can't make up their mind what they really want. At this point it appears to be survival.

The Big 12 has some problems. Texas is headed towards becoming an independent, perhaps only in football. OU is a football asset and KU is a basketball asset, but the rest of the schools don't light any other conference on fire as far as them going anywhere.

Plus, you don't have too many schools that the Big 12 could attract that add value to what they have now. BYU? Maybe. Houston and Cincy? Those schools add to conference numbers but little else.

Bold prediction that I'm not sure whether or not I hope comes true: The "Power Five" cartel will eventually become a farm system for the NFL, not unlike how Minor League Baseball, minor/junior league hockey, and the NBA D-League are currently run. They'll play by NFL rules (Hopefully by then they'll have fixed the catch rule and gotten rid of that godawful 33-yard extra point) and the players will probably be paid by that time. I'm honestly not sure whether or not I'm in favor of that idea, but it sure wouldn't surprise me if that were the case.

What you'd probably then see is the MAC, C-USA, and Sun Belt schools all jump ship for the "Power Five" conferences because they want to stay relevant and cash in on TV deals and ticket revenue from playing in big stadiums.

If that happens, I hope the Big Ten will absorb 6 more teams and have two divisions: One called the "Real Big Ten Division" with all the original ten schools plus Penn State, and the other called the "ESPN Division" with the other nine. The only inter-division competition is the conference championship game so old-timers like me can enjoy playing the conference opponents we grew up watching.  :sTiR:

tR:oLl  Sometimes I'm amazed by the things you type on here.  Other times, like when you typed "old-timers like me" when, according to your previous posts you are 21-years old, I'm like,

I'm not even sure what warranted that ad hominem attack, considering the exact same scenario has been floated on this board by other members.

That's still not a reason to be insulting.  He's obviously half serious and half kidding.  Correct me if I'm wrong but he's also made amends.  Your comment was unnecessary.  Time to let it go.

You guys obviously don't get it.  He called himself an "old-timer" and he's 21 years old.  We have some old-timers on here, but he's not one of them.  I don't consider myself an old-timer and I was in college when he was born.

Lighten up, Francis.

It's called tongue-in-cheek. Although I was being serious that I don't want to watch my team play Rutgers, Maryland, and Nebraska every year. I want to see the original Big Ten teams in our conference schedule, not the ACC/Big 12.

You post a meme of a triple face palm (which was clearly meant to be a slight) and I'm the one who should lighten up?

What if old timer simply reflected an attitude, not chronology?  Can someone who is 21 years old still think 3 yards (or run control football) and a cloud of dust is still the best way to win a football game?  Or because they are 21 mean they can only think today's spread offense with 76 pass attempts per game is the way to win?

It was a friendly post.  IMHO, you are the one that doesn't get it.  That past is the past.  To quote a not so famous viking, "Don't look backwards, you aren't going that way."

Just my two cents man.  Not trying to start anything.

Wow!  You guys are too serious about this.  It was meant to be a light-hearted rib.  It's kinda like when a bunch of guys are sitting around and the 20-year old says, "Well, back in my day..." when he's talking to a bunch of 50-year olds.  It's funny. :D  There was no insult meant.

But it can be helpful to look back every so often.  Like the time I was leaving for my Friday night game and pulled out of my driveway (with the tailgate down) and noticed my gear bag in the middle of the road.  ;D

There was nothing light-hearted about that angry, personal diatribe. It's also another good reason to get rid of that stupid emoji thing that keeps popping up everywhere.
