Multiple Live Ball Fouls
« on: September 30, 2017, 05:07:39 PM »
Play scenario: 2nd and 10 at Team A 20. At the snap Team B is offside, interception by team B, on the return after the interception BIB by defense and personal foul unnecessary roughness defense, after the ball is dead unsportsmanlike conduct on defense. All fouls by Team B, 3 live ball (2 after COP) and 1 dead ball. What is the ruling?

Team B is not free from foul before they gained possession, so, they do not have “clean hands.”  Team A will accept the offside penalty to get the ball back, and decline the block in the back and the unnecessary roughness penalties.  Team A will accept the dead-ball unsportsmanlike conduct penalty, which will be penalized from where the offside penalty leaves the ball, and will also give Team A a first down.  The B player that committed the UNS foul has one on his ‘counter.’
A, 1/10, A-40.  And, let’s not forget clock status - play clock at 25, and both clocks start on the R’s signal.

Why does game clock start on signal?  Precious play was a turnover technically, killing the clock.

See 3-3-2-e-1.
Prior to Redding, any COP during a down would, indeed, cause the clock to start on the snap.  But, Redding changed that.  If Team B won’t next snap the ball, and there is no other reason for the clock to start on the snap (like out of bounds, for UIL), the clock starts on the R’s signal.  Several ARs under 3-3-2 make this clear.

I always like the rhyme:  A-B-A ... Ready-for-play.

...but don't say this rhyme on kicks or scores :)
