UW vs UO on ABC.
Pass rusher breaks through a double team enough to force the QB to scramble but the blockers knock the rusher to the ground. The QB is behind them out of sight. One of the O-linemen dives on the prone D-Linemen and rolls over him to keep him down longer and to be a little nasty, doesn't attempt to hold him though. QB throws a long TD pass.
I see this happen a lot and have never seen it called a penalty except if the O-Linemen goes to the neck or head or spears him with the crown of the helmet. Or if it is after the whistle which was not the case here.
Should this have been called:
- a legal finishing of the block.
- The vaguely defined discretionary Unnecessary Roughness call.
- Some other rule infraction I have overlooked
(By the way I am debating on the side of the refs and against my teams fellow fans on how this was called.)
