I don't use the round-the-neck style of lanyard in either football or basketball because lanyards against bare skin make my neck itch. I use a Smitty-style clip-on lanyard in basketball, and a finger whistle in football, so (5) doesn't really apply to me.
What the Dunbar player just did was as stupid and senseless as the John Jay players tackling the back judge in San Antonio, if not worse. Dunbar Dayton got off easy with a forfeit. I wouldn't be surprised if the OHSAA hands out a postseason ban for that action, because this was not the first incident of egregiously bad sportsmanship from that school.
