Yeah, I get that.  I've contemplated mentioning something when the coach brings it up at our pregame conference (they usually tell me they run a swinging gate), but it feels like I'm over-officiating if I do that, to be honest and giving them an advantage that's not mine to give.  I'm not out there to give a rules clinic, especially when I wasn't asked a question about it and this feels like a bit more than preventive officiating.

Last season, we had a coach who actually tipped me about his opponent doing this. Sure enough, here comes the team with 4 players 50-79 into a swinging gate formation on the try.  The defensive coach is going *crazy*.  Then they shift into a scrimmage kick formation and are completely legal.  After the try, our line judge got crawled all over asking why we didn't have a flag and thankfully, he was ready to deal with the coach because we covered this quite well after the coin toss just so we'd all be ready and on the same page (I figured the coach's knowledge wasn't 100% on the topic).  The coach thought the foul should've been called before the snap, naturally.
