Incident Reports UNS

Did TASO change a policy? Are we supposed to file incident reports for all UNS fouls or just those that include disqualifications? I know we are supposed to file them for targeting fouls.

When in doubt fill one out.  I know for sure to fill one out for all UNS fouls at the subvarsity levels for players and coaches.  We fill them out for Varsity as well.

  If the UNS is part of a DQ, report.   If the UNS is against a coach, report.   If the UNS involves abuse of an official, report.

and as stated before all UNS calls in sub-varsity get an incident report as well.

The sub varsity paperwork requirement will surely result in A) Some officials not calling UNS or B) not reporting them. Just my opinion not an endorsement of either

The University Interscholastic League has directed that certain incidents be reported. ANY
EVENT THAT DISRUPTS THE NORMAL FLOW OF THE GAME, officiated by TASO
officials, requires a report. Examples included, but are not limited to:
• Abuse from coaches, players or fans
• Fighting by players, coaches and fans
• Serious Injuries
• Unsafe Playing Conditions
• A half time lasting longer than 28 minutes at a Varsity game
• Coach Ejection – ALL levels of play
• Player Ejection – ALL levels of play
• ALL Targeting Fouls
• ALL 15 yard penalties involving the sideline
• ALL 15 yard penalties for unsportsmanlike conduct in sub-varsity play, especially
middle schools or junior high
• For a Varsity game when no Game Administrator is identified
The game administrator is to be informed of the problem the night of the game, when
available. Written reports from each official directly involved in the incident shall be
submitted within twenty-four hours and may be filed electronically using the TASO or UIL
websites. In addition, the official should notify his/her Chapter leadership of the report.
Reporting of other incidents should be done in accordance with Chapter policies and such
policies that TASO may adopt.

Honestly, if we reported all of those, especially the last one, we'd be reporting about 80% of our games and the reports would become meaningless.  Or, more meaningless than they are now.  I never hear anything back from what I report.  Is someone really going through those?

Yes.  The schools AD and Superintendent receive a copy and have to respond to them.  If it involves unsportsmanlike acts or DQ's they have to provide the UIL what actions they are taking and it must meet the UIL's satisfaction.  Most will respond requiring the player to run X number of miles before they are allowed to participate.  Our local coach was ejected from a football game last year and the UIL required him to pay a fine and take an online behavior exam on a Saturday that took him about 8 hours to complete.  He compared it to defensive driving.  He said it taught him a lesson.  If you send one to TAPPS the parents of those players actually get fined.  For players the school gets fined $50 per ejection of players.  Coaches who are ejected pay $200.  For playoffs those fines go up to $150 and $400.

If every crew would send a report on not having an administrator, perhaps one would start showing up
 Believe me, when the rotating wind device is getting clogged is not the time to start try to find the game admin!
