Play clock after a fumble...

I just want to make sure that I understand running the play clock after a fumble.

If team A recovers the fumble, it is still set to 40 seconds.

If team B recovers the ball, it is set to 25 seconds for the initial possession (Team B is awarded a first down), then 40 seconds for subsequent possessions.

Do I have this correct?

I have a play clock assignment in two weeks, so I was wanting to get this straight in my mind.

Assuming a lot of things, like this is a fumble during a scrimmage down, with no 4th down fumble rule involved, with no legal kick involved, then, yeah, that is correct.  A fumble by A, recovered by A, and there is no other reason to stop the game clock, then the play clock is set t0 40, and starts after the ball becomes dead from the previous down.

I also have been told (this is my first year running the clocks), in in doubt leave it at 40 and let the R signal what to set the play clock to...but sometimes the R don't give the proper signal to reset the game clock...gets confusing, as I have seen some R use the one hand pump to signal 40 secs reset while I was working some of the games on the game clock.

40 years ago, this game wasn’t straightforward.  It has only got more complicated since then. Don’t expect simple answers, because the questions are rarely simple.
