O2O Setup Question

Alright, random topic/thread I know, but I need some help with a setup I'm trying to put together.

The Problem: My crew in D-II football uses Midland radios for O2Os. We use one of the Secret Service looking headsets and the mic is a push-to-talk that clips on your lapel/collar. I'm sure many of y'all use the same. I haven't had great luck with the system as I feel its very unnatural to reach up to my collar to push to talk.

The Needed Solution: I know many D-1 conferences and the NFL have O2O systems that are made specifically for that purpose and their push-to-talk is on their waist. I would like to try to replicate this system using Midland radios. There are some products out there, but they seem to have some kind of military plug/hookup that doesn't seem conducive to Midland radios.

The Midlands we use on our crew have both features.  The PTT on the headset and the PTT on the radio itself.
The official can use the one of his/her preference.

Do your radios not have this?

Every Midland radio I've seen has PTT so I'd be surprised if his doesn't. We have both, but I almost always use the one on my lapel because I put the radio on my back.

I got a blue tooth receiver (for a non-Amazon radio, but I'm sure they make the right adapters) for about $50 on Amazon, it has a PTT button on an elastic strap that you wear around your wrist like a snug bracelet.  May be worth looking into.

Bought this two years ago.  The finger button has a velcro strap and is meant to run down your arm but can just as easily strapped to a belt loop or belt.  You might have to rig an additional loop if your belt or belt loops are too wide.

If you are intent on keeping the security style in-ear piece then search for "3 wire or "finger push PTT" in your search .

Would issue it looks like I'm running into in all this radio research is most of these devices seem to work for Kenwood and/or Baofeng. My crew uses Midland radios and from what I've seen, they don't get along well.

Any information on that? If I bought a Baofeng and tried to communicate with Midland, will it work?

Yes. Baofeng is programable to midland freqs

There are two types of 2 pin connectors- Motorola and Kenwood ("everything else").  Everything else would include Baofeng, Midlands, Retevis.

If you have the correct Baofeng programming cable, you can set up the Baofeng/Retevis ' 16 channels.  I think the Midlands are pre-programmed with 22 (I think) FRS/GMRS channels, so you won't have every channel.

Keep in mind that Baofeng is not compliant with FCC regs regarding FRS radios.
