Matching Helmets
« on: May 20, 2020, 10:12:32 PM »
I was watching a replay of a Louisiana playoff game East St. John vs Central. It wasn't difficult to notice Centrals helmets did not match. So that led me to the rule book and I could not find where they have to be matching. As far as jerseys go I couldn't find anything either. Has anyone ever ran into this before? Seems kinda odd.

I have had sub varsity teams with helmets that weren't exactly the same color. Usually happens at some of the poorer schools. Equipment gets replaced different years and the colors don't match. Varsity will get the new helmets. The old varsity helmets will get inspected and handed down to the JV and freshman. Leads to mismatch in colors.

In the grand scheme of things - are you really not going to play if the helmets don't match, or if some of the jerseys are different shades of blue?

Don't go looking for trouble; play with what yuo've got as long as there's no confusion.  Trouble will find you well enough on its own.

The rules are rather straitforward

1 - There is no rule requiring addressing color to either teams helmets.
2 - The Visiting teams jerseys must be White. 1-5-1b(2)
3 - The Home teams jerseys must be a color other than White (effective 2021 must be a dark color that clearly contrasts to white)  1-5-1b(3)

So, in 2021 if one player on the home team had a dark blue jersey, another had a dark purple jersey and another had a dark red jersey,
we would kickoff at 7:00pm

Each summer (excluding this one) the Shriners play a benefit all-star game for their  hospital made up of graduated seniors. The players wear helmets from their former schools while legal jerseys are provided by the Shriners. I've worked several of these and have never been confused by this. IMHO, the stickers that many coaches allow to be worn on their helmets is more distracting and one could consider an adornment.....I won't be that one , though :) .
