UIL Announcement 7/21
« on: July 21, 2020, 02:47:06 PM »
With the new dates the UIL announced it is going to get tricky for officiating. Chapters that service lots of 4A and down along with some 5A and 6A are going to have some issues since a lot of them already had officials drafts in the spring. Your best crews will be calling 5A and 6A district games and everyone else will be calling the lower division playoffs....I wonder if the the 4A and down schools are going to want a redraft so the get better crews for their early season games. Will be interesting to say the least. I think things will change again, but the current situation seems to have taken place without a lot of input from TASO.

I'm curious about the even bigger overlap with Basketball.  I know we always have about 2 weeks of overlap, but now we'll have an even bigger one.  Now, what will not upset me is if they said that fans would not be allowed to attend basketball games.   ;D

This plan seems to want to address the perception that the virus outbreaks are greater in larger metro areas, which appears to be somewhat true, but not entirely accurate.  What does not make sense is the fact that there are many 4A and below schools in those populated metro areas.  This is just a hunch on my part, but I think this gets rolled out to all UIL schools regardless of classification before the season starts.

In our "big city" we have 4 UIL football playing schools.  2 will start on time and the other 2 with the late start.  Essentially those late starters will go from football season to baseball.   Basketball won't be an option for those multi sport players.

I see this happening as well. It will make things much easier to deal with from an officiating standpoint as well....especially with all of the games already drafted.
