Rule 7-2-2

I was watching the IMG vs. Venice game in Florida last night and IMG lines up for their first extra point and players outside of those next to the snapper are "locking legs" in violation of 7-2-2. This seems to happen a lot and is never called. Does this rule seem insignificant to most of us and are we reluctant to call it? To me, if its in the rule book its there for a reason and should be called. With as much attention as IMG gets I would think that someone in Florida would let them know that they are in fact in violation of this rule. Probably the only reason that I myself notice this is that I was working a game with a white hat about five years ago and he made this call and stated that this was the first time he had called it after X-amount of years. He had been calling for over 40 years. Maybe that year was the first year he read it. What do ya'll think?

In almost 50 years, I've seen this once and we called it.  I concur that it does give the offense an advantage and should not be ignored.  I will also say that before flagging it, you might consider warning the HC (which we did) - since they probably don't know it's illegal - but the idiot kids did again anyway

We do not have this problem in our area because all of the coaches, all of the players and most of the spectators know all of the rules.  Their knowledge often surpasses that of the officials assigned to the game, for example: that can't be intentional grounding because the passer was outside of the tackle box; the defensive player that jumped into the neutral zone prior to the snap got back on his side of the line before the snap; etc., etc. etc.  I feel for my fellow officials who work in areas where the coaches, players and spectators are not as enlightened as ours!

I used to joke they got their rules knowledge "as seen on TV"
