S/B Quiz 11
« on: November 15, 2020, 08:29:21 AM »
Abbreviated version:

1. A, 4/3, B-24, snap (40 and running). A88 does not not complete the catch, which requires him to first touch the ground inbounds. By the description, he first touched the pylon before touching the ground, and the the pylon is out of bounds. No catch; incomplete pass.

2. A, 1/10, B-20, snap (25) - if penalty for illegal position foul is accepted. Successful field goal - 3 points for A - with A, Free Kick, A-35, Free Kick Timing (25), if penalty for illegal position foul is declined. Note: The 5-yard penalty can not be enforced on the kickoff.

3. B, 1/10, B-45, snap (25). KCI by A21, enforced at the spot of the foul (B-30), taking the ball to the B-45.

4. A, 1/10, B-32, snap (40 and running). There is no foul for KCI, since there was no valid fair catch signal, and the ball was touched by B. The play clock is set to 40 seconds and should start 'automatically' when the ball becomes dead with the kickoff down.

5.  B, 1/10, B-46, snap (25). KCI by A21. The valid signal is given, KCI protection continues following a muff by the signaler, as long as the signaler remains in position to complete the catch.

6. B, 1/10, B-25, snap (25). The block by A40 is legal, but B21's touching of the ball is ignored since it was "forced touching." A10's muff of the ball (at the B-5) is illegal touching (and should be marked with a spot marker). More than likely, the ball touched the ground in the end zone before being recovered by A10, which would cause the ball to become dead immediately, and result in a touchback (since it was, officially, untouched by B before touching the ground the end zone). However, even if A10 recovered the ball beyond the goal line before it touched the ground in the end zone, his recovery simply causes the ball to become dead behind B's gaol line, and the impetus is from A's punt, and still results in a touchback. Team B will not accept the illegal touching privilege, because the touchback is more advantageous.

7. B, Free Kick, B-20, free kick timing (25). Although the batting by B44 is legal, it is the impetus on the ball when it becomes dead behind B's goal line; thus resulting in a safety, 2 points for A, followed by a free kick by B at the B-20.

8. B, 1/10, B-10, snap (25). The batting by A21 is 6-3-11 illegal touching, and the PSK spot is, by rule, the B-20 (2-25-11-b-2). The clipping foul by B77 qualifies for PSK penalty enforcement. Since the spot of the foul is beyond the PSK spot (B-20), the penalty is enforced from the PSK spot, 1/2 the distance, to the B-10.

Good job, as always.  Thanks for doing these.

Minor corrections for, I assume, typos or misread of the question:

4)  A 1/10 B31 Snap 25.  (This question has a punt, not a kickoff.)

6)  B 1/10 B20 Snap 25.  (Touchback on a punt.)

I constantly harp at my crew to not get in a hurry, but I don't listen to my own advice. Thanks for the corrections. The good news is that I don't 'think' I/we would make those errors on the field ('think' being the key word - no one is infallible).
