What are your goals for this season?
« on: August 30, 2021, 11:11:38 AM »
Anyone have any specific  individual/crew goals for this season? I've worked really hard this past offseason on rules, and mechanics to an extent, and want to focus on three things this year to improve on:

1) Better peripheral vision around runner - as a short wing on 4-5 man crews, esp on longer runs or catches close to the sideline, I have a tendency to focus so much on the runner, that I sometimes 'see' other fouls, like BSB, BIB holding, etc. in my peripheral vision but can't get a number (which leads to #2 below). I want to improve on having a wider field of view.

2) Become more confident in throwing what I see.  I often have self-doubt that leads to me not throwing a flag when I probably should.  I know the rules, definitions, concepts, etc. I just find myself instantly trying to talk myself out of it, out of fear (I guess) of being wrong (and not always having the number, from #1)

3) Keep working on BBW on LOS - this one is just tough for me to get all the nuances.  I can read it 100 times but have a hard time getting it to stick, to the point I can visualize it and instantly know.

A trick I was taught as a wing is when receiver comes out to say” 21 red on 86 white” or something similar. Helps to remember at least the numbers for those guys. As far as other numbers deadball officiate and keep the fouling player in view and then see his number.
