Pull Down Hold

4th and 8 with A in punt formation.  A64 immediately at the NZ grabs and locks up B91 who has been pressuring kicker on 3 previous kicks and pulls him backward almost 6 yards before pulling him down on top of him.  Kick went OB at the 2 yard line and B chose previous spot enforcement.  I've got a Holding flag down. Quick discussion with the U and decide to enforce from the previous spot since foul "started" immediately at the snap right at the NZ.  Kick went OB at the 2 yard line and B chose previous spot enforcement.  Would any of you have enforced this any different?

With the kick OOB at the 2 yl, 10 yards and punt again sounds like the better option, but we will ask R's coach.

We try to enforce holding from the start of the foul, which is frequently at or near the LOS.

4th & 18 sounds right.

There's always debate on where the spot of the foul is when it occurs over several yards.  To me, the spot of the foul is where you decide "that's a hold" and not where engagement first starts.  So probably at the yard line when the defender starts to get taken to the ground is the spot.  IMO.

Enforcement can be from spot of foul and replay 4th or tack on 10 and have B 1/10 @ B12, which they probably won't do.

I agree with this philosophy. At some point you are going to decide to throw the flag. When that happens you are going to throw the flag at that spot. So that spot becomes the location of the foul and a point of reference for enforcement.
