When is a game ruled official

Is there a certain point when a game can be ruled official? A game in VA was suspended with around 2 minutes left in the third quarter with team A in front 7-6. Thanks for any help.

Rule 1-7-10 &11 (states' rights rule) allow your state to set rules that apply to this. Rules 3-1-3,4,5 could be applied. Unlike baseball, where after 5 innings the game is official, in football the coaches can mutually agree how to handle these rare situations.

My first ever varsity game ended about 2 minutes into the second quarter when lightning came and cleared the stadium. While looking at the radar and the hours long delay incoming, the team that was down 35-0 already decided it was probably a good idea to call it an early night and proposed the idea to the other coach.

Generally speaking, coaches can mutually agree to anything, but the state association may set limits especially if playoff seeding or the like are impacted.

Thanks for the responses. This game was about a month ago between two of our region's top teams. I'm not sure if it will get completed because one of the teams has played just 4 games with 2 weeks left in the regular season.
