Well, 35 years was long enough.  I hung up the whistle yesterday.  Time for the youngsters to step up.  There were just too many reasons to retire and not enough to stick it out any longer.  Been a great ride boys.  I'll still be involved with instant replay and might do some timing locally when time permits.  Time to go camping, fishing, on trips and enjoy the fall. 

I will check in periodically.  Best of luck all!

Hate to hear that doc.  I'm glad to have met you in person and drank way too many rounds. Hard to pass up $2.00 margaritas.  It's hard to believe but 22 years ago as a rookie getting on the old Mcgriffs site I asked lots of questions and I identified 3 trusted officials,  whose answers I could trust and you were one of those 3.  Thank you brother.

Been there and done that Doc! You will miss the friends and good times! You will not miss the meetings, five hour scrimmages, 3 game sub varsity sets and likely a lot of coaches.

That will/has come for all of us. Leaving the field doesn't mean leaving the game, as you still can stay involved by observing new officials, working a game clock, AND JUST CHATTING WITH US! Enjoy your field retirement but don't retire from loving football....you've still got the Dallas Cowboys  !

Seriously, we all know internally when it is time to take that step back and just enjoy the scenery. If that is now, for you, I think everyone here wishes you the best. I know I do. Doesn't mean you have to be a stranger here. Now you can sit back and laugh at us worrying about the "initial charge" and "indicators" and things "significantly out of scope." Not your problem, now, chief.
Go enjoy some grandkids, or something.

Robert, I may show up at the state meeting just for the hell of it.  Naw, not really. 

No grandkids.  My daughters say no way to kids.  Good for them.  They are expensive.  I've got some camping and fishing trips lined up.  Looking at going to Alaska again.  Going to try and do Oktoberfest and do a river cruise in Germany next year with my Wurstfest group.  There are a whole lot of things I have not done in the fall because I was dedicated to football and a crew.  Time to enjoy vacations in cooler weather and while kids are in school!  I'll check in from time to time and continue doing the playoff brackets for now.

Cannot thank you enough for your services to the game.  I too think about how close I am to hanging them up.  I hate that it's becoming more and more of a struggle to get motivated for the last weekend in August to arrive.  I hope you do drop in every now and again but will miss your valuable input.  All the best on a solid retirement.

Nah, we have a really excellent supervisor who spends a lot of time even before the tournament engaging the incoming officials. I'm happy to be just helping out where I can

WTF???! I have been preoccupied, finally log on and read this???! When we visited last year, I got the feeling you'd be around a few more years since you were happy working with your new crew. Regardless, given your replay career taking off, I'm not totally surprised. I'll see how it goes. If I stay healthy and the mind doesn't go (farther) south, I'll continue beyond my 31st year for as long as I can.

Now I'm starting to wonder if my comment about having to "endure" the 20 minute drive to the state meeting put you over the edge?   

Kudos to a great career, bud. You'll be missed and I'll miss your comradery.
