Helmet Color

Had a coach inquire about one of his players helmets.  The kid went to a camp and an NFL player autographed it.  He was asking if the kid could play with it.  As I was looking for the rules, I only found mention that the helmet must be of the same color and design and then I recalled there was a UIL exception perhaps that the helmets don't have to match colors.  Apparently, that exception has vanished, so we are under the NCAA rule with no exception.

 Yes I remember at one time there was an exception.
But in all honesty I’m going to let them play.
I’m sure someone will disagree with me.

Why in the world would you want to play wearing a helmet autographed by an NFL player?

Me too.  This coach was mainly hoping there was a rule because he didn't want the kid to play with it, but the parents were pushing the issue.  I was like, you are the coach, and you can set team rules, regardless of what the football rules are.

I agree with this statement above.  Why, why, why???  I also agree with the statement the coach should be dictating to the player and parents the team uniform and that if the helmet they elected to purchase and have autographed is not the same color as the team, it's not to be used. 

The direction some coaches go never ceases to amaze me!
