A pass play from one of my games this week:

A's ball, 1st & 10 on the A20 yard line.  A is in shotgun and just as QB-A9 is releasing a screen pass the ball is tipped high in the air by a blitzing LB.  QB-A9 catches the loose ball at the A10 yard line and immediately passes it to his running back on the A18 yard line who is then tackled at the A32 yard line.

What's the call?

“and just as QB-A9 is releasing a screen pass” does not give us enough information to decide.

Is the ball in A9s player possession when the ball is tipped high in the air?

If the ball is not in player possession when it is tipped, was the direction of the pass prior to the tip ruled forward or backwards?

If the first pass is forward, it’s a flag at the second pass for an illegal forward pass. Assuming it was a forward pass.

Ask yourself ,if the batted ball had hit the ground, woud you have ruled it a fumble or incomplete pass. If a fumble, ball remains alive + no flag. If iincomplete pass,, ball dead +  IFP LOD @ 5.
