No Great 8

The GOAT is finally retiring, with "just" 7 championships.
Well, even 7 will be a monstrously difficult to match, much less exceeded.
My wife is dragging me to see the "80" movie that starts Friday. I bet those producers are bummed.
OK. Since he played here, "Go Mahomey." Believe me, with 2 weeks of treatment, the ankle will be fine. Wasn't bad Sunday.

3 in the NFL. Brady has 7 in the NFL. I can't say if the AAFC was equal to the NFL, but, considering it didn't last and the NFL did, I am using the NFL as the standard. Including the years the NFL and AFL played a common championship - the first three Super Bowls - before they merged in 1970. The AFL was certainly competitive, considering they won SB 3, before the merger, and SB 4, the season of the merger.

For professional American football - period - Brady is the true, one and only, Greatest of All Time quarterback. Lots of other great QBs, including Namath, Unitas, Staubach, Bradshaw, Montana - many more. But only one has 7 Super Bowl wins. No, he didn't do it all by himself. Had great help with folks like Welker, Edelman, Gronkowski, et al. But he is still the guy that led the teams and threw the passes, with two different teams. He earned the wins, and the title of GOAT.

We may have seen the last of Brady, but we haven't heard the last from him. He signed a 10 year contract with Fox Sports as color man. Being a Patriot fan, made it glow even more, but I can't recall any comeback like that against the Falcons in the Super Bowl.

I think EVERY generation is entitled to consider it's own GOAT.  Football in every decade has evolved from previous decades in terms of equipment, strategy, training, coaching and financial benefit.  Each GOAT has risen to the top of their "time frame" through hard work, raw talent, personal drive" and personal sacrifice to be considered the "Best" that competed at the game, in their time. Effort and performance may be the only consistent qualifications.

There can never be one GOAT greater than all the previous GOATs because they (each) climbed their particular mountain higher than anyone/everyone else was able to do. Each one claims the mountain top of their particular mountain and earned the respect and admiration for how they performed against THEIR obstacles nd challenges.

Tom Brady has clearly earned his title, for this round, and will always hold it, and be able to graze, for all time, with the GOATS that preceded him and those that earn that recognition in future time frames.
