S-B Quiz 2023-01

I won't be surprised if I miss something, since this is almost all about new rules.

1. 3/5 @ B-30. It is late in the half and both teams have all their timeouts remaining. With Team A at the line and ready to snap the ball, the Team B head coach requests a timeout, and the timeout is granted. After the timeout, both teams are in formation and the ball is ready for play when the Team B head coach requests a time out.
RULING:
A, 3/5, B-30, snap (25 and running).
Do not grant the second consecutive timeout by the same team in the same dead-ball period.

2. 3/5 @ B-30. It is late in the half and both teams have all their timeouts remaining. With Team A at the line and ready to snap the ball, the Team B head coach requests a timeout, and the timeout is granted. After the timeout, both teams are in formation and the ball is ready for play and the Team A Head Coach requests a timeout.
RULING:
A, 3/10, B-30, snap (25).
Grant the T/O request by the Team A coach. This is NOT a second consecutive time out request by the same team.

3. 3/5 @ B-30. It is late in the half and both teams have all their timeouts remaining. With Team A at the line and ready to snap the ball, the Team B head coach requests a timeout, and the time out is granted. After the timeout, both teams are in formation and the ball is ready for play. Just before the snap, A77 commits a false start. Team A is penalized 5 yards. Both teams are back in formation with the ball ready for play, and the Team B Head Coach requests a timeout.
RULING:
A, 3/10, B-35, snap (25 and running).
Do not grant the second consecutive timeout by the same team in the same dead-ball period.

4. 3/5 @ B-20. Late in the 3rd quarter, QB A12 rolls deep and to the right and gets outside the tackle box. A12 is under heavy duress and throws the ball away from the B-30 into an area with no eligible receiver. The ball is headed back toward the line of scrimmage, but a strong wind holds the ball up and it lands at the B-23. The game clock expires during the play.
RULING:
A, 4/15, B-30, 15:00 (4), snap (25).
After the penalty for the intentional grounding foul is enforced, the teams change ends of the field and the next snap will begin the 4th period
.

5. 3/5 @ B-20. Late in the 2nd quarter, QB A12 rolls deep and to the right and gets outside the tackle box. A12 is under heavy duress and throws the ball away from the B-30 into an area with no eligible receiver. The ball is headed back toward the line of scrimmage, but a strong wind holds the ball up and it lands at the B-23. The game clock expires during the play.
RULING:
Halftime.
The penalty for the intentional grounding foul includes loss of down. At the option of the offended team, the period may be extended. Team B will elect to allow the period to end. The halftime intermission begins.

6. 4/Goal @ B-10. Late in the game with Team A trailing by 3 points, back A44 catches A12’s forward pass behind the line at the B-12. A44 runs to the B-2 where he is tackled inbounds, and the clock expires during the play. Before the pass by A12, B21 was guilty of holding receiver A88 in the end zone.
RULING:
A, 1/G, B-5, snap (25).
(Assuming this is the 4th period) After the penalty for the defensive holding is enforced ½ the distance from the previous spot, plus a first down, extend the period for an untimed down.

7. 3/5 @ B-25. QB A12 is in shotgun formation with the game clock running. Center B5 legally starts the backward motion of the snap with a quick and continuous motion. During this backward motion the center clutches or pauses before releasing the ball and the ball subsequently slips from the snapper’s hands and is loose at the B-29 and B54 recovers the ball.
RULING:
A, 3/10, B-30, ready (25).
Illegal snap by B5 for the double-clutch/pause during the snapping motion. The ball does not become alive, and the penalty is 5-yards from the succeeding spot, and third down continues.  (Note, if this were to occur during the last minute of the 2nd or 4th periods, there would be a 10-second subtraction from the game clock).

8. 3/5 @ B-25. QB A12 is in shotgun formation with the game clock running. Center B5 legally starts the backward motion of the snap with a quick and continuous motion. During this backward motion the ball slips from the snapper’s hands and is loose at the B-29 and B54 recovers the ball.
RULING:
B, 1/10, B-29, snap (25).
All action is legal, and B54 successfully recovers the live ball, and team B takes possession for a scrimmage series at the spot of his recovery (assuming B54 was ‘grounded’ at that moment). The snap is legally completed, and the ball becomes alive, when the ball leaves the snapper’s hand(s), even if inadvertently.

I agree with the rulings on all these plays.

Thankfully, so did Shaw-Blandino.
