2024 SB Quiz Week 1
« on: September 02, 2024, 05:05:38 PM »
I know the answers have already been posted, but I have not looked at the answers. Been busy going to a Rangers baseball game and other stuff, so just got to these. Let's see how I did. But I thought there are only supposed to be 2 replay questions per quiz. Looks like two more, to me.  ;D

Week 1 Quiz
1. Free Kick @ A-35. Team A and Team B line up in position and the Referee signals the ball ready for play. Team A has two green dot helmets on the field signifying that those players have radio receiving capability. A98’s kick is fair caught by B21 at the B-5.
RULING:
B, 1/10, B-25, snap (40 and running). The number of “green dot” helmets for either team on a free kick is unrestricted. For the first scrimmage down following a free kick, the game clock will start on the snap, and the play clock is set to 40-seconds and starts immediately when the ball is dead from the free kick.

2. 3/10 @ A-30. Ineligible lineman A70 runs five yards beyond the neutral zone and does not make contact with an opponent. A70 circles toward the flank and returns back across the neutral zone before A12 throws a legal forward pass caught by A88 at the 50. A88 runs to the B-40 where he is downed.
RULING:
A, 3/15, A-25, ready (25). No originally ineligible Team A player may be, or have been, more than 3 yards beyond the NZ before a LFP is thrown, whether they contact an opponent or not, and whether they return behind the NZ or not.

3. 4/Goal @ B-10. A98’s field goal attempt is partially blocked behind the neutral zone by B54, but continues in flight and hits the ground at the B-5. It then rebounds to the B-13 where B44 muffs it. A21 recovers while grounded at the B-11.
RULING:
A, 1/10, B-11, snap (25). Team A original series broken when the ball touches the ground beyond the NZ. When B44 muffs the ball, Team A players are eligible to touch the ball. A21’s recovery is legal and they are awarded a new series at the spot of the recovery (B-11). The blocking of the kick is meaningless for this example question. Being a legal kick down, the game clock will start on the snap, and the play clock is set to 25 seconds and starts on the referee’s signal.

4. 3/15 @ B-45. QB A12 drops back and looks downfield for A88 who is the primary receiver and defender B21 is holding A88 at the B-25. A12 throws a forward pass to his checkdown receiver who makes the catch at the B-40 and is downed.
RULING:
A, 1/10, B-35, ready (25). All defensive holding fouls carry a first down as part of the penalty. Due to the penalty completion, the play clock is set to 25-seconds and both clocks will start on the referee’s signal.

5. 4/10 @ A-10. A98’s untouched punt from his end zone goes out of bounds at Team A’s 30-yard line. A21, in his end zone, grabs B55’s face mask before the ball is kicked.
RULING:
A, free kick, A-20, free kick timing (25), OR B, 1/10, B-15, snap (25). Team B can accept 3 & 1 enforcement for the foul, which results in a safety – 2 points for Team A, with a free kick by Team A from the A-20 to follow. Alternatively, because the FMM foul occurred during the kick play portion of the down, Team B can have the penalty enforced at the spot where the dead ball belongs to them (A-30). Because of the legal kick down, the game clock will start per free kick timing rules, or on the snap. In either case, the play clock will be set to 25 seconds and will start on the referee’s signal.

6. 4/10 @ 50. A98 punts and the kick is untouched beyond the neutral zone when A88 reaches across Team B’s goal line before the ball touches the ground in the end zone and bats it back into the field of play. B22 muffs the ball at the B-2 and A43 recovers it at the B-6. While the ball is loose B77 holds A21 at the B-10.
RULING:
A, free kick, A-45, free kick timing (25). Because A88 touched the ball illegally (in B’s end zone), Team B can prevent Team A taking possession of the ball by accepting illegal touching in B’s end zone, which would give Team B the ball at the B-20. Team A will then accept the penalty for the holding foul by B77, which can only be enforced at the previous spot, with the down repeated.

7. 3/10 @ B-40. Early in the 2nd quarter, team A has all 3 timeouts remaining. A12 throws to A88 but the pass is ruled incomplete. The Team A head coach calls timeout to challenge the ruling on the field of an incomplete pass. Replay overturns the ruling on the field to a catch at the B-31. After the ball is ready at the B-31, Team A breaks the huddle late in the play clock, and the Team A head coach attempts to call a timeout just before the play clock displays zero.
RULING:
4/6, B-36, snap (25). Each team may on be granted one team time-out during any dead-ball period. By interrupting the game with a request for a T/O after the ball is ready for play, Team A is charged with a delay of game foul.

8. 3/10 @ B-40. Late in the 2nd quarter following the Two-Minute Timeout, Team A is trailing by five points and has all 3 timeouts remaining. A12 throws to a diving A88 but the pass is ruled incomplete, and the game clock is stopped at 0:15. The Team A head coach calls timeout to challenge the ruling on the field of an incomplete pass. Replay overturns the ruling on the field to a catch at the B-31.
RULING:
A, 4/1, B-31, 0:15 (4), snap (25). Team A will use their first team time out to avoid the 10-second subtraction, and the game clock will start on the snap. Team A has 2 times-out remaining, and they retain their replay challenge.

For 6), looks like there was a bit of a copy-n-paste mistake as to the result (free kick), but this would also come with an automatic first down as per AR 6-3-11 III.

A 1/10 B-40 25(snap)

Geez. I can’t read. I guess I get in a hurry. Previous spot enforcement is correct, but with a first down for A.
Thank you for the correction.
