3-4-7 ain't a two-way street...

This rule was passed to prevent the ref from worrying about applying 3-4-6. The offended team can choose to have the clock start on the snap if it was to start on the RFP. IF the clock was to start on the snap, there ain't no choice. 

The first time I recall this occurring was in  a game where the offense was ahead by several touchdowns with less the 2:00 remaining. The 3rd string FB false-started. I asked the defense's captain if ho wanted the clock to start on the snap. His answer was a classic.....

"REF, I JUST WANTA" GO HOME  "

The fact the rule only goes one way was a point of confusion in my region when it first came out, but I think it's all sorted out these days. However, I think I can count on one hand the number of times we've actually asked a captain/coach for a preference. We usually do what's "obvious" and if a coach disagrees, then he can let us know and we'll do the other thing. I'm sure that's not the "technically correct" mechanic, but why would you even give the kid the option in a blow out game like that?

I agree, NCwingman, the response " I just wanta' go home" awoke me to the fact that this should be in the same bag of asking the scored upon team if they want the penalty on the scoring team or if they want to kickoff after being scored upon. As I recall. this occurred the fall when it was a new rule. I musta' wanted to try it out.....I did... .

"Woke" was not a word until some illiterate left-wing liberal, somewhere, invented it, because he/she didn't have an understanding of proper English.

Wow, you must have led a really sheltered life.  Both awoke and woke are actually in the Oxford Dictionary.   The word is first documented as being used way back in 1938 when the highly acclaimed folk singer Lead Belly used the phrase "stay woke" on the recording of his song "Scottsboro Boys".  It has a long, long history and existed many decades before the right wing started using it as a pejorative political term.  I've said my piece and will refrain from further political commentary but actual history should not be a political football.

History is important, but common use of the word today is also important. And the right wing didn't start using it in its normal use today. That's actual history also.
