Int. Grounding?

Ball is on Bs 49 yd line QB take a direct snap throws a backward pass to running back when outside the lateral bounds of the free blocking zone throws the ball out at Bs 45 yd line. Is this a legal play ?

Are you asking if the RB can make use of the exception after receiving a backward pass?  If so, the answer’s “No”, since only the player who takes the snap has that option.

This is right from Redding's Study guide:

NEW IN 2022: As an exception, it is now legal for a passer to intentionally throw an incomplete pass provided he has been outside the lateral limits of the free blocking zone and the ball reaches the neutral zone extended (7-5-2 Exc 2). The player throwing such a pass need not to be the one who took the snap.

Actually, that is now incorrect as this "flaw" was corrected in the 2023 NFHS Rule Book (see page 64, Table 7-5-2 Exception 2: Sentence c.  "The passer is the only player to possess the ball after the snap ends."  The passer must be the player that took the snap.

See the same rule as stated 7.5.2 exceptions 2.c page 63 of the 2025 rule book the passer is the only player to possess the ball after the snap.
