Passing of a legend
« on: March 10, 2026, 11:31:50 AM »
Penn Wagers passed away this morning after a fairly long battle with dementia.  For those that don't know who Penn was, he was a long time SEC Referee and worked replay in the SEC and ACC after leaving the field.  I'm pretty sure he went to NFL Europe a couple of times when that was around.  He was one of those guy that you liked from the minute you met him.  He was very down to earth and always willing to help anyone.

I knew Penn many years ago when we worked high school football in Charleston, S.C. area. This was in the early 1970s and he actually worked his first varsity game on my crew. He was only a rookie but even at that time showed great potential and he surely became a fantastic official and had a great career. I stayed in touch with him over the years but lost touch after he retired from the SEC. He told me that he was going to work a season in the  ACC  to help out. May you rest in peace old friend.
