Varsity Games on Sunday...
« on: July 15, 2026, 09:06:12 AM »
I am starting to put together my schedule as a clock operator for the upcoming season.

I noticed that there are games being played on Sunday now and was wondering if this was the case
for other chapters as well?

Looks like the reasoning is there are a lot more games to cover, despite the shortage of officials, which is a whole other story that I will not  deadhorse: in this thread

I didn't think that was allowed by UIL???

Edit - all I have found, is this: (3) Minimum Time Between Regular Season Games. Up to and including the final district game, no team or student in any conference shall be permitted to take part in more than one game within five calendar days. Example: A team playing Saturday night cannot play again until the following Thursday night. A team playing Monday night could play any time on Saturday.

So they can play on Sunday... but the following week, they can't play until Friday  (or later.)

Thanks for the info.
I didn't think it was allowed either, until you pulled up the relevant UIL regulation.

Where are you looking? I don't see an FAQ section here (where I got my info) https://www.uiltexas.org/policy/constitution/athletics/football

OH.

Found it.  https://www.uiltexas.org/policy/constitution/athletics/eligibility

(b) SUNDAY PROHIBITION. A UIL member school shall not participate in any athletic contest or conduct any practice or teach any plays, formations or skills on Sunday.

(1) Violation. Any showing of films to or meetings of athletes for the purpose of instruction or reviewing of plays, formations or skills in any sport will be construed as a violation.

(2) Coaches Sunday Meetings. This does not prevent coaches from meeting on Sunday or from seeing films or planning an instructional program, provided no athletes are involved in this meeting.

You may want to bring this to the attention of the assignor.  It's possible they were entered wrong by the assignor or the coach has the wrong day. An example is some of the schedules from the coach may say Saturday,  August 30 , and so the assignor enters August 30, not realizing that's a Sunday.

Thanks for the heads up  tiphat:
Going to send out an email to our executive secretary and bring it to his attention and clarify, with a link to the regulation.

Likely the case.

Turns out I was misreading the days on google calendar ^flag
I thought the S on the right side of google calendar was Sunday, when in fact it is the S on the left is Sunday.
Worked it all out now.
Thanks to everyone for their assistance  tiphat:
