Although edited by me to read like a proper quiz question, this is an actual exam question from a collegiate level organization using NCAA rules. I do not believe the correct answer is listed. See if you agree (or not).

After looking back, I now see the correct answer is, actually, there. Somehow, I just didn’t see it. A10 committed a foul for intentional grounding for throwing a  pass to an area not occupied by an eligible Team A player. Even though he is in an end position, A80 is ineligible, since he is part of the 2x2 sub-formation in a legal scrimmage kick formation, with numbering exceptions.
So, the penalty - loss of down at the spot of the pass - ends the try, and Team A then will kickoff from the A-35.

Interesting play, I wouldn’t flag this as intentional grounding because I would say the passer is not under duress as written. However, this is illegal touching of a pass by 80 and since the statement of the penalty includes a loss of down, the points are not awarded and the try is over. The correct answer is C. This takes some concentration and wherewithal to recognize where this player came from.

Yeah, BTZ, you are right about it not being ING. I was hung up on making sure this was not ruled IDP, which would have resulted in the down being repeated. Yeah, ITP is the correct call, not ING. That does have LOD in the penalty, so the Try is over, which still makes choice c) the correct answer.

My guess, is that this will become the most common scenario that causes an error/mistake in officiating this play.
