OLE MISS -LSU game

On  the first series OLE MISS QB  throws a pass and wing official gave signal of incomplete but play continued and OLE MISS player recovered on 6 yardline. R complete, should they have had an inadvertent whistle on a loose ball play. In my day the offense could have taken result of play or replay down. I realize most of you guys are much more knowledgeable on todays rules than I am so what is correct. Just want to know?

See rule 12-3-3-d, which applies to games with IR. Basically if there is a clear recovery in the immediate continuing action after an official incorrectly rules a live ball dead, the ball is awarded to the recovering team at the spot of the recovery.

Here's how they want it handled....

A 1/10 @ B-37 Ready (25). This is an inadvertent whistle. Whether the pass was forward or backwards is reviewable, but replay cannot grant an advance or create an inadvertent whistle so the ball would be placed where A20 recovered it. Replay should mechanically use O2O to provide the on-field crew with information regarding the direction of the pass. The field can then administer the inadvertent whistle rule. (4-1-2-b, 12-3-3-b)
